What is a first order discount?
A first order discount, often called a welcome code, gives new customers money off their first purchase. It's one of the most common ways to turn a first visit into a first sale, and it's usually offered in exchange for an email signup.

Where Shopify's built-in discounts fall short
Shopify has no first-order-only setting. The usual workaround is limiting a code to one use per customer, which still lets a returning customer use it once. And a percentage welcome code has no ceiling, so 15% off a $900 first order costs $135.
